A long-time wish of Ajax USA has come true today: our beloved Ajax will enter the vast market of soccer talent in America! Ajax.nl announced the signing of a partnership with the Royale Orlando Football Academy in Florida today. The academy will continue under the name of Ajax Orlando with immediate effect and will play its games in Ajax's red and white jersey.

This is the thread to discuss Ajax's "American adventure"!

A full news report will appear on Ajax USA soon...

Figures, word is that Mystery Bob is leaving Florida for points north.Yo bro, if you're out there, just your luck . I am HIGHLY stoked. There has got to be talent in a country of 288,000,000 people; though Freddy Adu seems the to have ManU and other usual suspects breathing down his neck at present.I have a feeling that Ajax will find the weather , hot in the summer but awesome in the fall and winter(nothing like being poolside in January),and the talent pool, US born and foreign born both ,to be very agreeable. Also, how perfect is the timing when one also considers that Ajax is a name being widely bandied about for next years Champion's World(i.e. the series of matches than ManU,etc..just played in the colonies) matches and/or tourney?

Excellent report at Ajax-USA.Menno, Thanks a ton for translating the great news! Ajax Netwerk has a link to an article in the Orlando Sentinel newspaper which is interesting too.

There is more (good) news coming. I spoke to one of the partners in AO this morning, and I really liked both WHAT I heard and the positive attitude of the person I spoke to. They've sent me some more information about the program, which I'll fold into Menno's excellent report tonight. I also have some pictures (same as used on Ajax.nl) and the new AO logo (very similar to existing Ajax logo; just replace word "Amsterdam" with "Orlando" and bob's yer uncle).

Great news, but finally we Europeans have a sport that is bigger than any American sport (world wide) and we are better in it than them !! If this continous then the USA might become WC in , let's say 2010, or 2018 ??? Such a potential (280 million people !). Well, as long as those talents come to Ajax there's not much lose is there ?

Menno's news report now includes a photo of Mr Dillon, along with the new logo. And I must say, that Ajax Orlando shirt is great! I hope they sell those, just like that. A simple logo on a white shirt. Perfect.

I bought a shirt like that (Ajax logo on white shirt) from a street vendor in Weesp about 8 years ago, and I wore that thing to death! Still have it, but I can't wear it anymore because it's little more than a spiderweb.

Well I realise that a few people might disagree with me but I think that investing in teams andthen giving them the name Ajax cheepens the club slightly. Im all for investing in new clubs and using them to scout for new players, but there should only be one Ajax, now there's Ajax amsterdam, cape town and now orlando, it stinks of the club selling out.

There's now an article on Ajax USA about three new hires at Ajax Orlando. They are taking a slow and careful approach, which seems right to me. Do it right and don't do anything brash or amateurish to taint the brand.

Are these good signings Jim, as their names do not mean much to me over on this side of the pond ?

I really have no idea. I'd never heard of them before. But my initial dealings with Ajax Orlando suggests very sound decision-making. So I expect these guys will be well qualified and capable of doing the job. Time will tell.
